Sector membership – who joined recently?

We are delighted to have had 38 companies, organizations and/or academia join the ITU-D Sector in 2012, bringing the total number to 369 at the end of December 2012. Most recently the following entities joined:
The International Center for Promotion of Enterprises, based in Slovenia, joined the ITU-D Sector as a Member.
IMTS, France and the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc., United States of America joined as ITU-D Sector Associates.


ITU-IMPACT establishes first Cybersecurity Innovation Centre for Arab region

OmanITU and its cybersecurity partner, the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT), has announced a partnership with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman for the first Cybersecurity Innovation Centre to cater to the needs of the Arab region. Brahima Sanou, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau and Dr. Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, Chief Executive Officer, ITA Sultanate of Oman, signed the Agreement on 15 December 2012 in Oman.

With a total investment of over USD 2 million from the Oman government and ITU, the establishment of the new Cybersecurity Innovation Centre will play a pivotal role in supporting ITU-IMPACT’s global headquarters in Malaysia in localizing cybersecurity services and support to meet the unique needs of the Arab region. The Centre will also serve as a catalyst for enhancing regional cooperation, coordination and collaboration to address escalating cyber threats.

ITU Humanitarian Award presented to Australia

Australia_SanouAustralia is among the six recipients receiving the first ITU Humanitarian Awards in recognition of commitment and consistent leadership in supporting the use of telecommunications to save lives during emergencies. On 23rd November 2012, Mr. Brahima Sanou, Director, ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, presented the award in person to the Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Australia, in Canberra, Australia.
